There are three reliable sources of state counselor licensure requirements information. Two of them are websites and have no cost for access. The other is a publication of the American Counseling Association.

For each state, the licensure board website is listed. Also included are phone numbers and the board’s mailing address. The titles used in that state for professional counselors are also listed.
C. The American Counseling Association publishes: Licensure Requirements for Professional Counselors.The current edition is available only in digital form that is free to ACA members.
This publication includes a state-by-state listing of information about licensure requirements, licensure renewal requirements, scope of practice of professional counseling and other information.
