NCMHCE Standard-setting
The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) has just revised the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Exam (NCMHCE). They are revising the format to emphasize long-term ongoing therapy in the counseling relationship.
Because of this format change and revision, they are now going to establish a new passing score cutoff for this version of the NCMHCE. They will use the first 300 counselor exam results to set the new passing cutoff score. That means that the first 300 exam takers this spring will, in all likelihood, pass the exam no matter what their performance is as there will be no official cut score established yet.
So if you are thinking about taking the NCMHCE soon or in the near future, this might be the time to get in on the ground floor with no passing criterion yet established. Only 300 exam takers will comprise this cohort. You need to meet the criteria for exam eligibility which means having the NCC already or have completed all the educational and experience requirements listed for the NCMHCE. You need to apply now as the testing is June 6-25, 2022.
